Bird
Flu - Is your company prepared?
'It is important people get the right information'
- Dion Wiggins, Gartner
Gartner
has recommended that companies take practical steps to minimise the
impact of potential bird flu pandemic on their business.
Proactive
planning will help minimise the disruption to their business rather
than waiting until an outbreak strikes. Simple preparation would
assist companies in responding quickly and effectively.
Where typical
continuity plans cover the loss of critical infrastructure or
equipment, the bird flu pandemic would present a 'denial of access'
where company’s infrastructure remains intact but staff would be
unwilling or unable to travel to the office.
Communication
with staff is critical when relaying detail on risk and what
response is being made. Contact details for all staff need to be
reviewed and brought up to date, together with the process of
notification and the messages to be communicated.
Disruption to
companies may come from outside of their own environment. Key
suppliers and vendors need to be contacted to understand what plans
they are putting in place.
CPA's experience
in understanding and implementing Business Continuity planning can
help you understand the risks and minimise their impact on the
smooth running of your business should Bird Flu or other incidents
threaten.
